This episode of ‘The Archive’ pays homage to Igor Stravinsky. In the twentieth century, his ability as a conductor was almost eclipsed by his talent as a composer. The first recording in today’s episode shows us Stravinsky’s last concert in 1965, in which the maestro conducts the ‘Suite No.3’ from his ballet ‘The Firebird’ with the New Philharmonia Orchestra. The second recording introduces the conductor Igor Markevitch, who performs Stravinsky’s ‘Symphony of psalms’ with the Choir and Orchestra of the ORTF.
