The Archive - M. Rostropovich & D. Oistrakh
This episode of ‘The Archive’ pays tribute to two great performers of Russian music: Mstislav Rostropovich and David Oistrakh. In this 1965 recording, they perform Double Concerto with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kirill Kondrashin. The following footage presents David Oistrakh performing the ‘Allegro giocoso, non troppo vivace’ from Brahms’s Violin concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Rudolph Schwarz conducting, recorded in 1958. Lastly, he performs Prokofiev’s Sonata for two violins, with his son Igor on second violin, in a recording from 1961.
