The Archive - Sándor Végh & Alberto Lysy
This episode of ‘The Archive’ is entirely dedicated to Béla Bartók, the Hungarian composer, with the performance of his 44 duos for two violins. These duos, which were composed in 1931 after a commission by a music teacher, were originally intended for use in music lessons. As soon as in 1932, the pieces became part of the concert repertoire — as seen in this 1974 film for French TV. Two great violinists perform these duos: Sándor Végh and Alberto Lysy. They change the chronological order of the cycle at will, combining the most difficult duos with easier ones.
