The Archive - Arrau & Bolet
This episode of ‘The Archive’ is dedicated to two South American pianists: Claudio Arrau and Jorge Bolet. Claudio Arrau, the great maestro of Romantic music, allows us to appreciate his great talent during a recording in 1961 in London of a performance of Schumann’s Carnival. Just as remarkable, Jorge Bolet performs Triana by Isaac Albeniz during a recital recording in 1962 in London. He also played Chopin’s Berceuse in D major, and finally, the Grand galop chromatique by Liszt of whose work he’s one of the most passionate performers. The program ends with a film extract by Michel Hirvy’s “Le piano révélé par le film”. This mute extract of the 1920s pays homage to the great pianist Horowitz that Claudio Arrau admired a lot.
