The Archive - Ivry Gitlis
This episode of ‘The Archive’ pays homage to Ivry Gitlis, a violinist who marked his generation with the originality of his performance and his very familiar contact with the audience. We listen to him performing the classic Violin Concerto in D major by Tchaikovsky, accompanied by the ORTF National Orchestra, conducted by Francesco Mander. Following that are three contemporary performances enabling us to discover Gitlis’ playing where the magic of sound is confronted with his amazing technical mastery: first of all ‘Introduction and Rondo capriccioso’ by Saint-Saëns, then ‘Melodia, Sonata for Solo Violin’ by Bartók and to finish ‘La Capricieuse’ by Elgar.
