Here we see William Primrose, Gregor Piatigorsky and Jascha Heifetz, three great string players who formed a famous trio. First, the violist Primrose who performs Notturno, one of his arrangements from a work by Beethoven. He is accompanied at the piano by David Stimer for the BBC cameras in 1958. Then, the cellist Piatigorsky gives the first European performance of Walton’s Cello and Orchestra Concerto (dedicated to him) in 1957. He is accompanied by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Malcom Sargent. The program ends with two archives from 1949, with the violinist Heifetz and the Bell Telephone Orchestra conducted by Donald Vorhees. They perform Debussy’s The Girl with the Flaxen Hair arranged by Hartmann and Dinicu’s Hora staccato arranged by Heifetz.
