Gala from Berlin 2006 - Strauss & Mozart
On 31 December 2006 the Berliner Philharmoniker celebrated the 30th anniversary of the “Silvesterkonzert”, fostering first-rate classical music for three decades now. On the occasion of the closure of the year dedicated to Mozart, Sir Simon invited the Japanese piano player Mitsuko Uchida, one of the leading Mozart interpreters, and he encloses her Mozart D minor concert with two of the most important opuses by Richard Strauss. In his programmatic tone poem "Don Juan" based on the literary original by Nikolaus Lenau, Richard Strauss succeeded in elaborating the unmistakable style of his own for the legendary womaniser's characterisation. Three soloists representing the young singers' generation unite in the tercet and finale of the "Rosenkavalier" for a pathetic "feast of voices".
