The Tchaikovsky Files: Confessions of a Composer

The documentary ‘The Tchaikovsky Files: Confessions of a Composer’ brings the Russian composer to the present. Director Ralf Pleger based this film on Tchaikovsky‘s diaries and letters. He sketches an entirely different profile of the man whose mind and talent brought us ‘Swan Lake’, ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Mazeppa’, ‘Jevgeni Onegin’, ‘The Queen of Spades’, and countless other masterpieces. The film focuses on what it meant for the homosexual Tchaikovsky, the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally, to live his life in a homophobic environment.
