Based on Attila, King of the Huns by Friedrich Werner, this version of Giuseppe Verdi's powerful and poetic opera (1813-1901) features the famous Russian bass Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role. Taking place in the middle of the fifth century, Attila portrays in the fall of the Roman Empire and offers a dramatic reflection on freedom, courage, and hope. The Mariinsky Theater Orchestra and Choir are conducted by Valeri Guergiev. Soloists include Ildar Abdrazakov, Vladislav Sulimsky, Anna Markarova, Sergei Skorokhodov, Mikhail Makarov, and Timur Abdikeyev.
