Puccini - Turandot
Puccini - Turandot
In medieval China, Princess Turandot makes an astonishing announcement in front of the Forbidden City of Beijing: she will agree to marry anyone who can unravel her three enigmas. But his suitors play for everything: if they fail, they will be put to death. Having failed to solve the riddles, the prince of Persia will be executed at dusk ... Unfinished and rarely staged, Turandot is Giacomo Puccini's latest opera. For this meticulous composer, Turandot's writing proved to be a particularly long and tedious process. Puccini immersed himself in the creation of his last work, writing to a friend in March 1924 that he "poured [his] soul into this opera". Filmed outside at Torre del Lago Puccini, in the Italian province of Lucca, this spectacular version of Turandot is presented in a most striking setting.
