Between you and me

Even though he premiered these pieces himself in a concert hall, Claude Debussy had imagined Book I of his Preludes - composed between December 1909 and February 1910 - would be played in a more intimate setting. A few decades later, filmmaker Paul Smaczny fulfilled the composer's dream by having the twelve preludes from Book I performed by Daniel Barenboim in the privacy of an art deco house. The film features a dancer, artwork and readings interspersed between the pieces, beckoning the viewer to step into Debussy’s fantasy.
