Bach - Mass in b minor
Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) is a musical setting of the complete Ordinary of the Latin Mass. Bach finished this work in 1749, a year before his death. He never heard it - it was first performed in the 19th century, when it started its journey as one of the most popular works in classical music. As of 2013, the work has been recorded about 200 times, including a 1968 rendition by Nikolaus Harnoncourt on period instruments. At one time or another, all major baroque ensembles and choirs have performed this work. This program presents a definitive performance of this masterwork by a hand-picked ensemble of soloists with the Gächinger Kantorei and the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart under the direction of Helmuth Rilling.
