Israeli mandolinist Recital
The mandolin is quite a rare instrument, and there is - by far - less repertoire written for it than the violin. Israeli mandolinist Avi Avital turns this disadvantage into the strength of his work: He constantly arranges existing repertoire for his instrument, and even writes his own pieces - thus being in constant, fruitful conversation with music history. Music: Nigun from Baal Shem Suite, Ernest Bloch (1880-1959); Hanjale, Kareem Roustom (*1971); Partita No. 3 for Mandolin, Filippo Sauli (c. 1660-1720), Improvised Poem, Yasuo Kuwahara (1946-2003); Kedma for Retuned Mandolin, Avi Avital (*1978); Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004, Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Location: Verbier Festival, Switzerland.
