Concerts in a Palace - Brahms & Debussy
This episode of Concerts in a Palace is the last in a series of six that was recorded in 1999 at the wonderful 18th-century baroque castle Schloß Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt, Germany. In this broadcast, violinist Anna Rabinova and pianist Vladimir Stoupel perform Johannes Brahms’ last sonata: Sonata No. 3 for Violin and Piano, Op. 108 which was composed between 1886 and 1888. It premiered in Budapest in 1888 with Jenő Hubay on the violin and Brahm's on the piano. This episode also features flutist Anna Garzuly, violinist Karl Suske, and harpist Cornelia Smaczny performing Claude Debussy’s Sonata for flute, viola, and harp. This piece is part of Debussy's Six sonatas for various instruments. Unfortunately, when the composer died in 1918, only three of the six sonatas dedicated to his wife Emma Bardac were completed.
