Concerts in a Palace - Grieg's Holberg Suite
This episode of Concerts in a Palace is the second in a series of six that was recorded in 1999 at the wonderful 18th-century baroque castle Schloß Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt, Germany. Discover the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra perform Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Op. 40. This five-movement suite is based on 18th-century dance forms and was written in 1884 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the humanist playwright Ludvig Holberg. The work was originally composed for the piano, but Grieg himself later adapted it for string orchestra. Furthermore, violinist Alain Moglia plays Camille Saint-Saëns Sarabande, Op. 93. This episode also features neoclassical composer Jean Françaix' Six preludes.
