Mendelssohn Gala Concert 1997
This gala devoted to Mendelssohn's music was recorded in 1997 at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. The Gewandhaus Orchestra and solo viola player Frank-Michael Erben are directed by Kurt Masur. Together, they perform some of the most popular compositions by Felix Mendelssohn, who was himself the fifth conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1835 to 1847. The program for the evening is the opening and the Nocturnal March of the Midsummer Night's Dream, the Violin and Orchestra Concerto in E minor, and the "Scottish" Symphony in A minor.
