This film by Paul Smaczny from 1996 portrays the German pianist Christian Zacharias. Interviews with the pianist are alternated with fragments of concert performances. The viewer gets a peak in the daily life of Zacharias, which mainly consists of studying, the recording studio and concert performances. Christian Zacharias (1950) studied piano in Paris, took Second Prize in the Concours de Genève in 1969 and earned an honorable distinction at the prestigious Van Cliburn Competition in 1973. Zacharias performed chamber music with the Alban Berg Ensemble and Frank Zimmerman. In 1992, he started his career as conductor at the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Zacharias made his American debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and is the artistic director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne since 2000.
