Britten - The Turn of the Screw
The Turn of the Screw is a two-act chamber opera composed by Benjamin Britten. The libretto by Myfanwy Piper is based on the namesake of Henry James, and was commissioned as part of the Venice Biennale. The opera, premiered on September 14, 1954, is one of the most celebrated English-language operas. It consists of a prologue followed by 16 scenes, all of which are preceded by a characteristic theme of 12 notes. This production was recorded at the Schwetzingen Festival in 1990, and staged the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart and soloists Helen Field, Menai Davies, Richard Greager, and Machiko Obata, under the direction of Steuart Bedford.
