Yvan Vaffan’s titular character is a dancer and choreographer who spent his life studying the classical pas de deux before abandoning dance entirely. Jean-Claude Gallotta was inspired by this character to go through many of the academic dance movements and exercises with an ironic take on the classical pas de deux, which ends as a violent centerpiece. The ballet premiered at the Opéra Nouvel in Lyon in 1984 during the first ever Biennale de la danse de Lyon. In 2012, Gallotta decided to revisit Yvan Vaffan with help from Mathilde Altaraz. Premiering in January 2013, this new version features music by Strigall. This performance was recorded at l’Espace Malraux in Chambéry in April 2013.
