Orchestre de Paris plays Grieg, Pärt and Sibelius
Paavo Järvi conducts the Orchestre de Paris in a concert filled with Nordic composers. Elisabeth Leonskaja is the soloist in Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto, Op. 16. Grieg composed his only piano concerto at the age of 25. It still remains one of the most loved concertos in the repertoire. The orchestra continues with Arvo Pärt's 'Silhouette' (2009), which is a tribute to Gustave Eiffel. This concert closes with Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 2, Op. 43, which was composed in 1902. Sibelius is widely recognized as Finland's greatest composer and is often credited with having helped his country to develop a national identity during the struggle or independence from Russia. Recorded in La Salle Pleyel in Paris in 2010 and directed by Louise Narboni.
