Martha Argerich and Friends

Argentinian star-pianist Martha Argerich enchants with a beautiful concert at the Salle Pleyel in Paris on March 6 of 2010. Argerich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1941 to parents of Spanish-Catalan descent. She started playing the piano at the age of three, and performed on stage for the first time at the age of eight, in 1949. performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor and Beethoven's First Piano Concerto in C major. Argerich was internationally recognized for her exceptional skills and talent after winning the seventh International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1965. Today, she has been recognized as one of the greatest pianists of all time. For this concert, she is joined by Akane Sakai (piano), Lilya Zilberstein (piano), Nelson Goemer (piano) and other musicians. She is also accompanied by her own daughter, Lyda Chen-Argerich (alto). Their concert opens with an interpretation of Sergei Rachmaninov's Suite pour deux pianos No. 1 en si bémol majeur, Op. 5, which is followed by Manuel de Falla's Fantasía baetica and Claude Debussy's Sonata No.3 pour violon en col mineur. Argerich's performance continues with beautiful performances of Sergei Taneyev's Prélude et fugue pour piano en sol dièse mineur, Op. 29 and Beethoven's Piano Quartet No. 3 in C major. Argerich closes her enchanting rendition with Béla Bartók's Sonate pour deux pianos et percussions Sz 110.
