Mata Hari
Mata Hari
Director and award-winning choreographer Ted Brandsen has taken the turbulent life of the Dutch dancer and spy Mata Hari as his inspiration for a lavish new full-length ballet. A new score has been specially commissioned from Grammy nominated composer Tarik O‘Regan. Margaretha Zelle is one of the most infamous and iconic women in Dutch history. Desperate to escape the boundaries of reality, Margaretha reinvented herself as the exotic, Javanese princess Mata Hari. It is a tale that is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago: an ambitious young woman does whatever it takes to find the fame and fortune she craves. But Mata Hari was playing a dangerous game, and ultimately she would pay with her life. The Dutch National Ballet performed this beautiful ballet at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet in 2016.
