La Grande Danza - Aterballetto in Milan
Founded in 1977 under the name of Compagnia di Balletto dei Teatri dell’Emilia – Romagna directed by Vittorio Biagi, the Italian dance company has been active as Aterballetto since 1979. Over the years, Aterballetto has made a name for itself as Italy's principal producing and touring dance company. In this recording from the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, the ensemble performs three choreographies from international creators. First in line is Jiří Pokorny's "Words and Space". The Czech dancer and choreograph creates an image of intrapersonal speech, a book full of floating stories in his intimate and poetic creation. Philippe Kratz' "Phoenix" takes the viewer on a visual journey through the circular motion of life, complete with birth, growth, immobility, death and finally, re-birth. Last but not least, Bari-born choreographer Giuseppe Spota critically shines the light on today's youth and their ability to face real-life challenges while constantly being surrounded by virtual worlds.
