Created in the troubled historical period of 1914, this symphony expresses a certain optimism. The composer was commissioned to compose the symphony by the Finnish government in honour of his 50th birthday, which was declared a national holiday. This concert was recorded at Gothenburg Concert Hall (Konserthuset) in Sweden in 2018.
