The Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, Spain offers talented musicians profound musical training and valuable concert experience. This broadcast, a 2021 concert at Auditorio Sony of the Reina Sofía School of Music, shows the combined performances of several of the School's current students and recent alumni. String quartet Cuarteto Haendel de Puertos del Estado, in its 2021 configuration of Sara Valancia Villeta (violin), Paula Mejía España (violin), Carmen Gragera Salas (viola), and Eva Arderíus Esteban (cello), perform Joseph Haydn's String Quartet No. 30, H III:38, Op. 33, No. 2. They are then joined by oboist Lucas Martínez Riaza for a performance of Vincenco Bellini's Oboe Concerto in E-flat major – the composer's only surviving concerto – here in a version for oboe and string quartet. A thematically related piece, Antonino Pasculli's 'Omaggio a Bellini' for English horn and harp, is then performed in a version for English horn and piano by Paulo Roberto Pinto Junior (English horn) and João Guilherme Barata (piano). To close the concert, pianist Natalie Schwamova plays three moving compositions for solo piano by Frédéric Chopin: Nocturne Op. 27, No. 2, Waltz Op. 64, No. 3, and Ballade Op. 52. The concert was part of the Fundacíon Banco Sabadell Young Talents Series.
