The Escuela Reina Sofía (Reina Sofía School of Music) in Madrid, Spain, organized a celebratory concert series at different venues in Madrid and Santander to commemorate the school’s 30th anniversary. English conductor Paul Goodwin leads the Camerata Barroca of the Escuela Reina Sofía in a chamber music concert featuring works of J. S. Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, Jean-Baptiste Lully, Georg Christoph Wagenseil, and George Frideric Handel. A performance of Bach’s Orchestral suite No. 1 in C major, BWV 1066 opens the concert. Violinists Patricia Cordero and Celia Bueno, cellist Eva Arderíus, and harpsichordist Cristina Sanz then play Corelli’s Trio Sonata in D major, Op. 3 No. 2. The Camerata Barroca returns to performs the suite from Lully’s opera Armide, LWV 71. Then cellists Alejandro Viana, Eva Arderíus, Ülker Tümer, and bassist Jimena Rodríguez perform Wagenseil’s Sonata for three cellos and double bass in G major, No. 6. To close the concert, the Camerata Barroca plays Handel’s Concerto grosso in B-flat major, HWV 313, Op. 3 No. 2.
