Magifique
PG01:20:002009HD
In Magifique, Thierry Malandain, director of Ballet Biarritz, dives into his memories. Set to the unifying theme of Tchaikovski’s music, the show reaches heights of emotion. In 2006 the Ballet Biarritz headed by Thierry Malandain captivated Chaillot’s audience with Les Créatures. This unusual company – which has a taste for classical body language and remains modern in its approach – will shine again with Magifique. Dipping into personal memories to Tchaikovsky’s engrossing music, Thierry Malandain turns in one his most beautiful creations. Thierry Malandain tells how as a kid he used to describe his ecstatic moments as “magifiques” leaving the “n’ out. Today, he is still secretly besotted with dance. And that is mag(n)ificent! The Malandain Ballet Biarritz recorded at the Gare du midi, Biarritz in 2009.

Anastasia
G01:57:002017HD
By popular demand, Canada's Ballet Jörgen reprises the tragic tale of the Russian Grand Duchess Anastasia, 10 years after the ballet's premiere and 100 years after Anastasia's story. Created by acclaimed choreographer Bengt Jörgen, the ballet is set to an original score for orchestra by Russian composer Ivan Barbotin. He previously wrote the scores for two of Canada's Ballet Jörgen's most popular ballets: The Velveteen Rabbit and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Anastasia is both the tragic story of an innocent young girl and a modern myth: the exact events of that fateful summer of 1918 are shrouded in the mists of time. The ballet explores this lovable yet controversial main character's emotions, aspirations, and affections, as she is faced with a world in turmoil that undergoes an inevitable transformation. Anastasia is a sumptuous ballet performance, where costume and set design as well as the exquisite stage lighting reveal Canada's Ballet Jörgen's dedication to creative quality.

C(h)oeurs
14A01:48:002012HD
For years, tension between the group and the individual has been a central theme of Platel’s performances. In C(H)ŒURS, his biggest project yet, he examines how dangerously beautiful a group can be. What is the relationship between the progressive 19th-century nationalism of Verdi and Wagner and the current tendency for countries to close themselves off? Platel looks at the emotions that arise from the assembly of individuals within groups, reflects on the dynamics of collective movements, and explores the boundary between the public and the individual. C(H)ŒURS features magnificent choral scenes with over 80 singers, dancers and musicians and was premiered on March 12, 2012 at the Teatro Real Madrid.
