Fridays in July
On three consecutive Fridays, Stingray Classica premieres three concerts recorded at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall from the Moscow Philharmonic Society. On July 2, conductor and pianist Mikhail Pletnev leads the Russian National Orchestra in performances dedicated to the music of two of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's operas, featuring the famous Flight of the Bumblebee. The following week, pianist Boris Berezovsky joins forces with conductor Alexander Sladkovsky for a performance of Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no. 1. The composer wrote this lesser-known youth work at the age of 18 while studying at the Moscow Conservatory. On July 16, Mikhail Pletnev sits down at the piano for a performance of Camille Saint-Saëns's Piano Concerto no. 2, Op. 22.
Mikhail Pletnev conducts Rimski-Korsakov

Russian conductor and pianist Mikhail Pletnev leads the Russian National Orchestra in performances of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's music. On the program are Suite for Orchestra after the opera 'The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya', and Musical Pictures for Orchestra from the opera 'The Tale of Tsar Saltan'. Part of the latter is the famous 'Flight of the Bumblebee'. This concert was recorded at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall of the Russian Philharmonic Society in 2017.
Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 1

Piano soloist Boris Berezovsky is accompanied by the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Alexander Sladkovsky in a performance of Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto no. 1, Op. 1. Rachmaninov composed his first concerto while studying at the Moscow Conservatory at the age of 18. The concert opens with 'Heavenly Movement', a composition by the young Russian composer Elmir Nizamov (*1986). This concert was recorded at the Tchaikovksy Concert Hall of the Moscow Philharmonic Society on April 28, 2017.
Saint-Saëns - Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 22

Pianist Mikhail Pletnev is accompanied by the Russian National Orchestra led by Kirill Karabits in a performance of Camille Saint-Saëns's Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 22. At its premiere in 1868, the orchestra was led by Anton Rubinstein, with the composer himself at the piano. The current concert was recorded at the Moscow Philharmonic Society and opens with a performance of Sergei Prokofiev's symphonic picture 'Dreams'. The concert was part of the Ninth Russian National Orchestra Grand Festival from 2017.
