Piano Recitals at Teatro Olimpico
Saturdays in April
On Saturday evenings in April at 21:00 CEST, Stingray Classica premieres three spellbinding piano recitals by three Italian pianists of international renown, each recorded at the gorgeous Teatro Olimpico, the fabled Renaissance theatre in the northern Italian town of Vicenza. On April 15, Roberto Prosseda performs technically demanding pieces by piano virtuoso Franz Liszt and composer Ennio Morricone. One week later, Alessandro Marangoni presents a varied selection of music by Italian composers Muzio Clementi, Gioachino Rossini, and Ferruccio Busoni. This series of broadcasts from Teatro Olimpico concludes on April 29 when Costanza Principe performs J. S. Bach’s ‘Concerto italiano’ (BWV 971), and ‘Ciaccona’ (BWV 1004) in a Ferruccio Busoni piano transcription.

Italian classical pianist Roberto Prosseda (1975) began composing pieces for piano at the age of four. Today, Prosseda is best known for his recordings and performances of lost works by Felix Mendelssohn he so sensationally discovered. Seen here performing in 2021 at one of Italy’s oldest extant Renaissance theatres, the gorgeous Teatro Olimpico in the northern Italian town of Vicenza, Prosseda performs challenging pieces by Romantic composer and piano virtuoso Franz Liszt and film composer Ennio Morricone. On the program are the ‘Tre Sonetti del Petrarca’ and ‘Après une Lecture du Dante: Fantasia Quasi Sonata’ by Liszt, and Valse from ‘La signora delle Camelie’ and ‘Rimembranze’ by Morricone.

Italian classical pianist Alessandro Marangoni (1979) is internationally acclaimed for his profound interpretations and impeccable technique. Seen here performing in 2021 at one of Italy’s oldest extant Renaissance theatres, the gorgeous Teatro Olimpico in the northern Italian town of Vicenza, Marangoni plays Muzio Clementi’s ‘Batti, batti’; Gioachino Rossini’s Barcarolle and Petit caprice in the style of Offenbach; Ferruccio Busoni’s Elegy no. 2 “All’Italia! In modo napolitano”; Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s ‘La samaritana al pozzo’ and ‘Golgotha’ from his Evangélion, an epic meditation on stories from the New Testament; and Victor de Sabata’s ‘Tre pezzi per pianoforte’.

Before long she would be performing as a soloist with numerous prestigious orchestras in Italy, the UK, France, and South America. Seen here in 2021 at one of Italy’s oldest extant Renaissance theatres, the gorgeous Teatro Olimpico in the northern Italian town of Vicenza, Principe performs Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘Concerto italiano’ and ‘Ciaccona’, as transcribed for piano by Ferruccio Busoni.
