This concert, which features various works for wind ensembles, is part of the ‘Da Camera’ concert series of the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid. On the program are: Jean Françaix’s Quasi improvisando for 11 wind instruments; Felix Mendelssohn’s Nocturne for 11 wind instruments; and Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade for 10 wind instruments, cello and double bass in D minor, Op. 44. All works are performed by the Ensemble of the Escuela Reina Sofía under the baton of Francisco Alonso Serena. English conductor Paul Goodwin leads the Camerata of the Escuela Reina Sofía in a Baroque music program featuring works of Georg Philipp Telemann, Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel, and J. S. Bach. Soprano Paola Leguizamón features as the soloist. On the program are: Telemann’s ‘Water Music’ suite in C major, TWV 55:C3; the Overture and ‘Thy hand, Belinda… When I am laid in earth’ from Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas; Overture I and II, and ‘E vivo ancora? … Scherza infida’ from Handel’s opera Ariodante, HWV 33; ‘Vani sono i lamenti … Svegliatevi nel core’ from Handel’s opera Giulio Cesare in Egitto, HWV 17; and Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068.
