This episode of The Archive is dedicated to two great maestros. First, the Italian conductor Carlo Maria Giulini who conducts Verdi’s Four Sacred pieces with passion and closed eyes during the recording with the New Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus in Croydon. We are then invited to listen to the Romanian conductor Constantin Silvestri. He is much more reserved than Giulini and the atmosphere is quite different but still enchanting, when he conducts the ORTF Philharmonic Orchestra playing the overture to King Stephen by Beethoven.
